A verb gets in a conjugation group depending on what vowel it ends in when it's in the third person singular form.
Ending in -е
Examples: (той,тя,то) чете, пише, пее, живее, играе
In the first person these verbs end in -а or -я. If there's a vowel(а,ъ,о,у,е,и) in front of -а when conjugating it becomes -я

Ending in -и
